Together with the NIE Ms Fiona Kelly assisted the staff
giving basic training at the beginning.
Later VSO – Ms. AB Heningfield residing at Chilaw, helped
the staff guiding them. After doing a great service to Chilaw area, she left
the country.
When Mr – Boniface Fernando went on his retirement, Mr – G Gunathilake assumed
duties as the coordinator.
RESC shifted to
Bishop Edmond Pieris College in August 1998
VSO – Ms.Simone O’ conor visited time to time and helped a
lot to conduct workshops and same year the PELP project started. And staff
launched the popular PELP workshops. Ms.
Simone left after two years of her service.
Next VSO – Ms.
Valerie Eliotte resided in Chilaw. Together with the staff, she started many
new programmes to enhance the knowledge of teachers of English and the students
in the area.

Ms – Valerie Eliotte left the country and also

Ø Mr. WMA Fernando joined the staff.
Ø Ms.Radhika de Silva too left the centre to the open university.
RESC shifted to the Zonal Education Office, Chilaw in 2005
Ø Ms.
Kumari Saradha joined the staff and left again vacating her post and became the
ISA to Anamaduwa.
Ø Mr.
JE Bulathsinghala joined the staff instead of her.

beginning of the RESC, the staff did a tremendous service to promote the
English knowledge of the teachers and the students in the area.

to uplift the English language results.
After analyzing
results of O/L, RESC staff decided to
help the schools
who have got lowest
results. The intention was to uplift the
results at least by 10%.
Procedure :-
Each
staff member selected two schools from Arachchikattuwa and Chilaw Education
Divisions.
Visited
the schools.
Discussed
with the teachers of English.
Planned
various types of activities.
Support
classes were conducted by the schools too.
Students
were assisted to face the exam confidently.
This
was done since 2008.
Staff
noticed that there is a progress in English results later when anzlyzing…

2008 Ms.PP Chandrani has done an action research.

was done with the intention of finding out how effective is changing the
teacher role in the language classroom.

showed that the changing teacher role leads to effective positive teaching and
